For a very long time, we have played with the idea of a project that aims to make the Classics more accessible to other audiences. We ventured into this upcoming community of Crypto art and NFTs, and realised that this could be a fabulous starting point to build a Pixel Myths world that will map the relationships of characters and curate the popular myths whilst referencing the original sources. This project complements our joint talents and interests; academic study, art and tech.
Our chosen format of pixel characters was to highlight the symbols attached to each mythological figure, and to tell a story in a minimal yet striking style. They represent the beings that are present within the mythological tales, and are transformed into a Pixel Myth by us to join our universe. These characters are created as one-of-a-kind unique NFTS.
The second element is the stories that we curate, based on the original mythological sources in our museums and special collections. We want to share these in an accessible and engaging way, whilst allowing the details and lesser known ancient writings to flow through.
We want to communicate the classical mythologies in a new and engaging way. We want to bring new audiences to these interesting tales and stories. This project is a collaboration between the humanities, the arts and technology, and we want to explore experimental ideas that push the boundaries of these disciplines.
